Sau nhiều năm ở trong nhóm nông sản có giá trị xuất khẩu trên dưới 3 tỷ USD, năm 2022, xuất khẩu cà phê đã có bước đột phá và chạm mốc 4 tỷ USD. Theo Tổng cục Hải quan, trong tháng 12/2022, xuất khẩu cà phê đạt 197.000 tấn, trị giá 425 triệu USD. Với kết quả này, cả năm 2022, xuất khẩu cà phê đạt 1,78 triệu tấn, trị giá 4,06 tỷ USD, tăng 13,8% về lượng và 32% về giá trị. Như vậy, 2022 là năm đầu tiên xuất khẩu cà phê vượt mốc 4 tỷ USD.

Kết quả trên có được là nhờ giá cà phê tăng cao trên toàn cầu trong năm vừa qua. Bất chấp những tác động từ khủng hoảng năng lượng, lạm phát kinh tế…, nhu cầu nhập khẩu cà phê của các thị trường lớn vẫn tăng, có những thị trường tăng rất mạnh.

Ngoài ra, việc gia tăng sản xuất và xuất khẩu các sản phẩm cà phê chế biến cũng đã góp phần không nhỏ giúp xuất khẩu cà phê Việt Nam vượt mốc 4 tỷ USD trong năm 2022. Theo Tổng cục Hải quan, 11 tháng năm 2022, xuất khẩu cà phê chế biến đạt 610 triệu USD, tăng 18,5% so với cùng kỳ 2021.

Trung tâm Thương mại quốc tế (ITC) cho biết, cũng trong 10 tháng năm 2022, nhập khẩu cà phê của Đức đạt 4,72 tỷ USD, tăng 41,3% so với cùng kỳ năm 2021, trong đó, Đức nhập khẩu cà phê từ Việt Nam đạt 494,9 triệu USD, tăng 58,2%; Pháp nhập khẩu 2,7 tỷ USD, tăng 4,7% (nhập từ Việt Nam là 57 triệu USD, tăng 78,7%); Canada nhập khẩu 1,6 tỷ USD, tăng 37,7% (nhập từ Việt Nam là 28 triệu USD, tăng 91%)…

Trong khi nguồn cung cà phê toàn cầu thiếu hụt so với nhu cầu. Theo Tổ chức Cà phê quốc tế (ICO), tổng sản lượng cà phê thế giới niên vụ 2021/2022 vào khoảng 167,2 triệu bao (60kg/bao), trong khi nhu cầu vào khoảng 170,83 triệu bao.

Sự chênh lệch cán cân cung - cầu cùng những yếu tố khác đã làm tăng đáng kể giá cà phê trên toàn cầu cũng như giá cà phê xuất khẩu của Việt Nam trong năm 2022. Giá cà phê xuất khẩu của Việt Nam trong năm qua bình quân đạt 2.282 USD/tấn, tăng 11,6% so với năm 2021.
