Giá vàng tăng hơn 1%, dao động gần mốc 1,900 USD/oz vào ngày thứ Năm (12/01), sau khi dữ liệu cho thấy dấu hiệu lạm phát hạ nhiệt tại Mỹ đã thúc đẩy khả năng Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (Fed) sẽ giảm tốc độ nâng lãi suất.

Cụ thể, chỉ số giá tiêu dùng CPI tháng 12/2022 tại Mỹ tăng 6.5% so với cùng kỳ năm trước, trùng khớp với dự báo, sau khi vọt 7.1% trong tháng trước đó. Lạm phát cốt lõi cùng phù hợp với kỳ vọng trước đó.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Năm, hợp đồng vàng giao ngay tiến 1.1% lên 1,896.30 USD/oz, sau khi vọt lên mức 1,901.4 USD/oz trước đó, mức cao nhất kể từ tháng 5/2022.

Hợp đồng vàng tương lai cộng 1.1% lên 1,898.8 USD/oz.

Chuyên gia phân tích Suki Cooper của Standard Chartered nhận định: “Lợi suất thực giảm và đồng USD suy yếu đã hỗ trợ vàng, vì 2 rào cản chính đối với vàng trong năm 2022 đang có dấu hiệu suy giảm”, đồng thời cho biết thêm Fed có thể nâng lãi suất thêm 25 điểm cơ bản trong tháng 02/2023 trước khi tạm dừng và sau đó hạ lãi suất trong nửa cuối năm 2023.

Đồng USD lùi 0.8% xuống mức thấp nhất kể từ đầu tháng 6/2022, làm vàng trở nên hấp dẫn hơn đối với người nắm giữ những đồng tiền khác.

Các thành viên của Fed đã nhanh chóng nhấn mạnh rằng trong khi số liệu CPI đang đi đúng hướng, họ vẫn giữ lập trường đưa lạm phát trở lại mức 2%. Họ thấy lãi suất tăng “chậm hơn nhưng lâu hơn và có khả năng cao hơn”.

Chủ tịch Fed khu vực Philadelphia, Patrick Harker, và Chủ tịch Fed khu vực St. Louis, James Bullard, dự đoán lãi suất ở mức 5% để kiềm chế lạm phát, vốn đã đạt đỉnh 9.1% hồi tháng 6/2022.

Nhà đầu tư đang định giá cơ hội 90% lãi suất được nâng thêm 25 điểm cơ bản lên phạm vi 4.50% - 4.75% tại cuộc họp của Fed sắp tới.
