Giá vàng giảm hơn 1% từ mức đỉnh gần 7 tháng ghi nhận trong phiên trước đó vào ngày thứ Năm (05/01), khi báo cáo cho thấy thị trường lao động tại Mỹ thắt chặt hơn dự báo đã thúc đẩy kỳ vọng lãi suất cao hơn trong thời gian dài hơn.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Năm, hợp đồng vàng giao ngay lùi 1.%% xuống 1,827.14 USD/oz. Hợp đồng vàng tương lai mất 1.4% còn 1,833.40 USD/oz.

Phillip Streible, Giám đốc chiến lược thị trường tại Blue Line Futures, cho rằng sức mạnh đồng đông và lợi suất tăng đang gây áp lực lên vàng, đồng thời nhấn mạnh rằng Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (Fed) sẽ tiếp tục duy trì quan điểm “diều hâu” lâu hơn khi thị trường lao động tiếp tục mạnh mẽ.

Đồng USD tăng 0.9%, làm vàng trở nên đắt đỏ hơn đối với người nắm giữ những đồng tiền khác, trong khi lợi suất trái phiếu kỳ hạn 10 năm gần đạt mức cao nhất trong phiên.

Lãi suất cao hơn có xu hướng gây áp lực lên kim loại không đem lại lợi suất.

Số người Mỹ lần đầu nộp đơn xin trợ cấp thất nghiệp đã giảm xuống mức thấp nhất trong 3 tháng vào tuần trước, trong khi tỳ lệ sa thải giảm 43% trong tháng 12/2022, cho thấy thị trường lao động vẫn thắt chặt.

Chủ tịch Fed khu vực Atlanta, Raphael Bostic, vào ngày thứ Năm cho biết các quan chức của ngân hàng trung ương Mỹ “vẫn quyết tâm” giảm lạm phát trở lại mục tiêu 2%, trong khi lãnh đạo Fed khu vực Kansas, Esther George, cho biết ngân hàng sẽ cần phải thúc đẩy nâng lãi suất.

Triển vọng nền kinh tế Mỹ do nhân viên Fed trình bày tại cuộc họp tháng trước cho thấy cuộc chiến giảm lạm phát có thể kéo dài hơn dự báo.

Nhà đầu tư hiện đang chờ dữ liệu việc làm chính thức Mỹ công bố vào ngày 06/01.
