Giá dầu tăng khoảng 2% vào ngày thứ Năm (13/10), do mức dự trữ dầu diesel thấp trước mùa đông đã thúc đẩy hoạt động mua vào và đảo chiều từ mức giảm đầu phiên sau khi dự trữ dầu thô và xăng cao hơn dự báo.

Kết thúc phiên giao dịch ngày thứ Năm, hợp đồng dầu Brent tiến 2.22 USD (tương đương 2.4%) lên 96.47 USD/thùng, sau khi giảm vào đầu phiên. Hợp đồng dầu WTI cộng 1.93 USD (tương đương 2.2%) lên 89.20 USD/thùng.

Cơ quan Thông tin Năng lượng Mỹ (EIA) cho biết dự trữ các sản phẩm chưng cất, bao gồm dầu diesel và dầu sưởi, đã sụt 4.9 triệu thùng trong tuần kết thúc ngày 07/10 xuống 106.1 triệu thùng, mức thấp nhất kể từ tháng 5/2022, cao hơn so với dự báo giảm 2 triệu thùng.

Điều đó đã khiến nhà đầu tư phải bỏ qua việc dự trữ xăng bất ngờ tăng 2 triệu thùng và dự trữ dầu thô tăng mạnh hơn dự báo vọt gần 10 triệu thùng.

Phil Flynn, Chuyên gia phân tích tại Price Futures Group, nhận định: “Phần đáng lo ngại nhất trong báo cáo của EIA là lượng dự trữ sản phẩm chưng cất thấp hơn nhiều so với mức trung bình. Thị trương đang nhìn vào bức tranh toàn cảnh, trái ngược với những số liệu nhu cầu ngắn hạn bị ảnh hưởng bởi cơn bão”.

Nhiều nhà đầu tư vẫn lo ngại rằng lạm phát cao sẽ làm giảm nhu cầu nhiên liệu. Cơ quan Năng lượng Quốc tế (IEA) đã cảnh báo nền kinh tế toàn cầu có thể rơi vào suy thoái.

Chỉ số giá tiêu dùng CPI tại Mỹ đã tăng mạnh hơn dự báo trong tháng trước và cho thấy áp lực lạm phát tiếp tục gia tăng, củng cố kỳ vọng rằng Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (Fed) sẽ nâng lãi suất thêm 75 điểm cơ bản lần thứ 4 vào tháng tới.

Giám đốc điều hành JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, đã cảnh báo rằng lạm phát kéo dài và tăng cao có thể thúc đẩy lãi suất tăng cao hơn 4.5%.

Tổng thống Mỹ Joe Biden cho biết giá xăng tại Mỹ vẫn ở mức quá cao và ông sẽ phát biểu vào tuần tới về việc hạ chi phí.

Cũng gây áp lực lên giá dầu là cảnh báo của IEA rằng quyết định cắt giảm nguồn cung 2 triệu thùng/ngày của OPEC+ hồi tuần trước có thể dẫn đến suy thoái toàn cầu.

IEA đã hạ dự báo tăng trưởng nhu cầu dầu trong năm nay xuống còn 1.9 triệu thùng/ngày và giảm 470,000 thùng/ngày xuống còn 1.7 triệu thùng/ngày trong năm 2023.

Tổ chức Các nước Xuất khẩu Dầu mỏ (OPEC) vào ngày thứ Tư (12/10) đã hạ triển vọng tăng trưởng nhu cầu trong năm nay 460,000 thùng/ngày xuống còn 2.64 triệu thùng/ngày, do sự tái bùng phát Covid-19 ở Trung Quốc dẫn đến các lệnh phong toả và lạm phát cao. Tổ chức này cũng đã hạ dự báo nhu cầu dầu trong năm 2023 thêm 360,000 thùng/ngày xuống còn 2.34 triệu thùng/ngày.

Thị trường năng lượng cũng chịu sức ép từ đồng USD, vốn đã tăng trên diện rộng, bao gồm so với đồng tiền có lợi suất thấp như đồng Yên Nhật (JPY).
