Hãng sản xuất màn hình BOE Technology Group – vốn là nhà cung ứng cho Apple và Samsung Electronics – đang lên kế hoạch rót 400 triệu USD để xây 2 nhà máy ở Việt Nam, dựa trên nguồn tin thân cận của Reuters.

Kế hoạch này càng củng cố cho nỗ lực giảm bớt sự phụ thuộc vào chuỗi cung ứng từ Trung Quốc của các công ty công nghệ (dẫn đầu là Apple và Foxconn) trong bối cảnh Washington và Bắc Kinh căng thẳng địa chính trị và sự gián đoạn cung ứng do COVID-19.

BOE đang đàm phán thuê hàng chục hecta đất tại miền Bắc. Trước đó, công ty này đã sở hữu một nhà máy nhỏ ở miền Nam, chủ yếu cung cấp màn hình cho Samsung và LG Electronics, dựa trên nguồn tin thân cận của Reuters.

Trong vài năm gần đây, miền Bắc Việt Nam thu hút khoản đầu tư lớn từ nhiều ông lớn thiết bị điện tử, qua đó trở thành trung tâm sản xuất điện thoại thông minh, máy tính và camera, bao gồm cả những sản phẩm đầu tàu của Apple và Samsung.

Hon Hai Precision Industry (còn được biết tới là Foxconn) và Luxshare Precision Industry cũng sản xuất hoặc lên kế hoạch lắp ráp lượng lớn sản phẩm Apple ở các mảng như laptop và máy tính bảng.

BOE dự kiến thuê tới 100 hecta và sử dụng 20% diện tích này cho nhà máy sản xuất hệ thống điều khiển từ xa với chi phí 150 triệu USD. Thêm 50 hecta sẽ dành để xây nhà máy sản xuất màn hình, với khoản đầu tư 250 triệu USD. Các nhà cung cấp của họ sẽ sử dụng 30 hecta đất còn lại, từ nay đến năm 2025.

BOE sẽ tập trung sản xuất màn hình OLED tinh vi hơn thay vì LCD tại nhà máy này. Apple gần đây sử dụng màn hình OLED cho các thế hệ iPhone mới. Gã khổng lồ công nghệ Mỹ đã hợp tác với BOE từ năm 2021.

Apple cũng sử dụng màn hình OLED cho các đời điện thoại iPhone mới nhất.

Hãng sản xuất màn hình lớn nhất Trung Quốc (về sản lượng) có thể trở thành nhà sản xuất màn hình lớn nhất cho các đời iPhone mới vào năm 2024, Kuo Ming-chi, Chuyên viên phân tích tại at TF International Securities, dự báo trong tuần trước.
