Mirna Develops Blockchain VAT Platform: Oman Ministry Acknowledges

Mirna Mohammed, an Egyptian engineer put forward a blockchain-based project that was fabricated to oversee the value-added tax system prevalent in Oman.

Subsequently, Mirna’s Blockchain VAT accounting platform had been accepted by Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education and would be funded for its implementation.

Meanwhile it is notable that more Arab females from Oman and Saudi Arabia had been entering the blockchain ecosystem and adding value to the economy and society. The number of Arab women developing blockchain projects had been increasing over the last few weeks.

In an interview, Mirna stated that her venture started with her father’s insistence upon developing an accounting budget system using the latest technologies. Furthermore she stated:

I chose Blockchain because it is one of the best technologies that allow the Oman government to review and oversee the accounting procedures of different companies including their VAT disclosures.

However, she stated that there were some impediments in the way of developing the project. One of the major challenges was the lack of adequate knowledge of blockchain technology in the Arab world. Mirna stated that the technology is still an unknown entity to many.

However, Mirna assured that “Blockchain is the future” and spoke about the necessity of providing better platforms to the public in Oman to get to know more about the technology.

Furthermore, she added that Oman has wider opportunities in the field of blockchain though it is new there.

Surprisingly, the role of women in blockchain technology is significantly acknowledged in many parts of Arabic countries. A blockchain project called BidChain was developed by the female students of KSA’s King Faisal University.

As a matter of honor, Saudi Arabia’s Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, with the support of the Ministry of Education acknowledged the students for securing the third position with their BidChain project.
